How It Began
Born from a love
of the land
Chumcreek started as a small family property on Heath Road, surrounded by towering mountain gums and the gentle sound of the creek. From the beginning, the idea was simple: share this piece of the Yarra Valley with people who needed to slow down.
Over the years, we cleared trails, built huts by hand from local timber, and grew a herd of horses we are genuinely proud of. What has never changed is the feeling you get when you ride out through the gate and the bush closes in around you.
We are still a small, owner-operated property. Every ride is guided. Every hut is cared for. Every guest matters.

The Herd
Horses you can trust
Our horses are the heart of Chumcreek. We keep a carefully selected herd of calm, well-trained horses and ponies, each matched to the rider in front of them. No two horses are the same, and neither are two riders.
Before every ride, our guides take time to understand your experience, your confidence, and your goals for the day. Then they pair you up. It is not a random draw. It is a proper introduction.
Our horses are worked gently, rested properly, and looked after year-round. They are the reason people come back.

Where You'll Sleep
Huts built to last
We built the huts ourselves, from local timber, with the aim of making something that felt like it belonged here. Not imported comfort dropped into the bush, but something grown from it.
Each hut has a wood fire, proper bedding, a kitchen corner, and a verandah pointed at the best view on its block. They are simple without being sparse. Warm without being fussy.
Stay one night and you will understand why so many guests come back for longer.

Our horses come before everything. They are never overworked, always well-fed, and treated with the respect that makes them willing partners.

We ride on our own land and maintain our trails thoughtfully. No erosion, no rubbish, no shortcuts that damage the bush we rely on.
