I did the Yarra Valley Chum Creek ride. I was absolutely blown away by the entire experience. Clancy and his team were amazing in every aspect. They were all really knowledgeable, friendly and the hospitality was second to none. The accommodation was just perfect for the country side and the food was plentiful and delicious. You will not go hungry!! The horses were all in great shape and so reliable. They all had their own personalities and we all rode a horse unique to our own needs and capabilities. I rode Larry and wanted to take him home with me. The trip experience was just fabulous and I can’t recommend it enough. I just loved every minute! We had such a diverse group of riders but we got along like a house on fire, and after only 3 days it was so hard to leave my new friends!

Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrive at Chum Creek for a 9am start! Drop off your bags and head over to the horse yards to meet your steed and be briefed on your 2 days of adventure. Then we head off straight into the bush for a few hours of riding high in the Yarra Valley Ranges and relaxing in the saddle before we come to our hidden gem of a lunch spot.

Enjoy a hearty lunch whilst relaxing around the campfire, under one of the oldest oak trees in the valley. The tree and the views have to be seen to be believed! Once you’re refreshed, it’s back into the saddle to explore the bush some more, keep an eye out for the Wedgetail Eagles soaring along the ridge.

As the afternoon draws to an end, arrive back at Chum Creek to retire to your luxurious and cosy huts for a shower or spa, then sit back on the deck with a drink in hand whilst watching the evening set in and the animals retire. Dinner won’t be far off, and you won’t go hungry with plenty of delicious local fare.

Retire for the night under crisp sheets in our twin share rooms, and get some rest for another full day of riding tomorrow!

DAY 2

Wake to the smell of bacon, eggs and freshly ground local coffee! Breakfast is hearty to keep you fueled for the day of riding ahead, then over to the horse yard to greet your horse and mount up. Heading out up the mountain to explore the local trails, keep watch for the abundant wildlife, wombats, kangaroos, echidnas and goannas are all regular sights! You’ll be amazed at the spirit (and fitness) of your new best friend, as they expertly traverse the bush.

Arriving at lunch with another world-class view of the valley and surrounding mountains, relax around the fire with a glass of wine (or two) and enjoy a traditional camp lunch at our private Yarra Valley Mountain Hut. The peaceful beauty of this spot will have you wanting to stay forever, but before long we will mount back up for another afternoon ride, and head out to tackle some real mountain tracks.

Arrive back at Chum Creek as the afternoon gets long, and say goodbye to your faithful steed, by this stage you’ll love them as much as we do and be pondering how to fit them in your car as a souvenir!

Showered and refreshed back at the huts, relax around the open fire with your new friends whilst we prepare another delicious meal. After dinner, sit outside and watch the stars, listen for the owls and just savour the bush and the peaceful quiet of Chum Creek, in the Yarra Valley.

DAY 3

Wake to another hearty cooked breakfast of local free-range bacon and eggs, the finest local coffee, and a goodbye to new friends, before re-entering the real world, relaxed and reinvigorated for the new day, departing at 9:30 am.
